June 20, 1938 - March 22, 2021
Shirley Metcalf died peacefully in her sleep on March 22, 2021. She was born on June 20, 1938 at home in Thomasville, PA. She was the daughter of the late George W. Feeser, Sr. and Helen M. (Axe) Feeser. She was also predeceased by her little brother George W. Feeser. Jr. Shirley was the loving wife of the late Granville Bowen "Lou" Metcalf who preceded her in death on June 15, 2020. Shirley was a devoted and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. In her youth, she was a professional seamstress and amateur chauffer for her five children. In midlife, she and Lou owned and operated Ye Olde & Newe Shoppe selling antiques and collectibles in Baltimore, MD. Shirley was a founding member of a pinocle card club which lasted over 60 years and continued right up to the pandemic. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society. Shirley loved to travel, whether to Europe, Caribbean Islands, Japan or all over the United States, usually claiming to visit her children and grandchildren, but in reality, she just enjoyed exploring the world. Later in life, while a resident at Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, she was an ardent advocate for many of the less capable residents. Shirley is survived by her children: Sherry E. Knaub, and her husband Robert, their children Markus and Andrew and two great grandsons, Neil A. Jacobs, and his wife Allison, and their children Grant, Kyndal, and Grey, Lori S. Canon, and her husband Glen, their children Erica, Tiffany, and Stacy, and three great grandchildren, Karin E. Coldren, and her husband Brian, David A. Jacobs, and his wife Eriko, and their children Kreestoph, Keeston, and Keegan. She is also survived by her step-children William R. Metcalf, and his wife Dorothy, David G. Metcalf, and his wife Kim, their children Logan and Melissa, and three great grandsons, Susan J. McKelvie, her children Heather, Kristopher, John, Nicolas and one great grandchild, and Brian J. Metcalf and his husband Chris. A service for both Shirley and Lou's lives will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnut Hill Road, York, PA.
