Patricia (Pat) D. Shue Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Patricia (Pat) D. Shue, beloved sister and aunt, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at age 94. Miss Shue was born May 27, 1928. She was a native of York and a life-long, faithful member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was considered an icon and everyone knew her by name. For much of her life, she enjoyed being a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for the young children of her church and lending her voice to the Chancel Choir. She worked as a devoted nurse for forty years on the 11-7 shift at York Hospital, where she served as a head administrator until her retirement in 1988. Surviving members of her large nursing staff fondly remember her high standards, her tireless care for patients, and her starched white uniform, polished shoes, and nurse’s cap, which she wore proudly. For the past five years, she happily resided at SpiriTrust at Kelly Drive where she enjoyed the friendship of both staff and residents. Miss Shue graduated from York High School in 1945 and York Hospital School of Nursing in 1948, and received her BSN from Elizabethtown College in 1968. Miss Shue actively participated in the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Association and the York Hospital Alumni Association. She was a voracious reader, a Bible scholar, an avid collector of angel figurines, and a crossword-puzzle enthusiast. She was a skillful crocheter of beautiful blankets for all her great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Frederick Bernard and Anna Louise (French) Shue and her sister and her husband Jean (Shue) and Herbert Martin of York, PA. Her dear niece Suzanne (Martin) Heinz, wife of Gary Heinz of San Carlos, CA, also predeceased her. She is survived by her sister Carol (Shue) Yohe of York, PA, her brother and his wife Allen and Elizabeth Shue of York, PA, and her sister Helen (Shue) Baetz of Lewes, DE. In addition to her siblings, she is survived by her devoted nieces and nephews and their spouses: John and Dolly Martin of York, PA; Thomas and Margaret Yohe of Dayton, OH; Kimberly (Yohe) and James McMenamin of Towson, MD; Lisa (Brillhart) and Dennis Hudson of Lewes, DE; Kevin and Maryanne Yohe of Manchester, NH; Lea Anne (Brillhart) and Patrick Clancy of Martinez, CA; Kathleen (Yohe) and Richard Gordon of West Chester, PA; and Lauren (Brillhart) and Lee Butler of Fredericksburg, VA; Allen “AJ” Shue of York, PA; and Kristen Shue of Dallastown, PA. She is survived by 21 great nieces and nephews and 18 great-great nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held for friends and relatives on Monday, August 8, at 12:00 noon with a service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Both will be held at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market Street, York, PA. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, York, PA.
