Nancy M. Newcomer

March 27, 1932 - April 3, 2022

Nancy M. Newcomer, 90, of York, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2022 with one of her four sons by her side at Colonial Manor Nursing and Rehab Center. She was the wife of the late James A. Newcomer, Sr. Born on March 27, 1932 in York, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Susan (Landis) Elstrodt. Nancy celebrated her 90th birthday a week before her passing with her close family and enjoyed a lavender red velvet cupcake made by her daughter-in-law. Nancy was a life-long and active member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She was baptized, confirmed, married, and 60-year member of the Methodist Women’s group. After seeing her four sons off to elementary school, she completed her LPN training and practiced the next 30 years in nursing. She progressed from an operating room technician at Memorial Osteopathic Hospital of York, to staff nursing at Leader Heights Nursing Home, and finally as a private duty nurse. Her past times included gardening (caring for her flowers), Audubon Society (with a special interest in songbirds), outdoor life with her husband, and grandparent backyard picnics that attracted her family and their friends and multiple church group organizations. She is survived by her four sons, James A. Newcomer, Jr. and his wife Pamela of Purcellville, VA, Fred L. Newcomer and his wife Lea of Mt. Wolf, PA, Tim A. Newcomer and his wife Amy of North Huntingdon, PA and John W. Newcomer and his wife Amy of Warrenton, VA; eleven grandchildren and eight (soon to be nine) great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard Elstrodt Jr. and is survived by her two sisters Susan Richcrick and MaryAnn Lovell. A funeral service will be held on Friday April 8, 2022 at 11:00 am at Saginaw Community United Methodist Church, 860 Market Street, Mt. Wolf, PA 17347. A viewing will be held prior, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 1401 Mount Rose Avenue, York, PA 17403.
