Linda Dietz VanGiesen Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Linda Dietz VanGiesen, 76, of York died July 20th, 2022 at York Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Peter James VanGiesen, M.D., with whom she celebrated 49 years of marriage on June 16, 2022. During their many wonderful years together, they went on numerous adventures traveling the world and making countless close friends along the way. Born July 16, 1946 in York, she was the daughter of the late Virginia Nadine (Clement) and Charles C. Dietz. Linda was a proud member of the Central York High School class of 1964 and maintained close friendships with her fellow classmates throughout her life. She also received her Bachelor of Science degree from Millersville University in 1967 and her Master of Science Degree from Shippensburg University in 1973, before becoming an elementary school librarian for the York Suburban School District. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of York, the Junior League of York, the York County Medical Auxiliary, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Linda’s warm and outgoing personality drew people to her resulting in many deep and meaningful relationships that were not only enriching but a source of strength for her. In addition to her husband, Pete, she is survived by her daughter, Karen VanGiesen and her husband, Jeff Barnett of Potomac Falls, VA; three grandchildren, Colin, Madyn, and Peter Barnett; a brother, C. Scott Dietz of York and a sister, Debra Dietz Hempfing of York. She was preceded in death by her son, Peter Charles VanGiesen. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of York, 225 East Market Street, York with her pastor, the Rev. C. Kyle Gott. Viewing will be held the night before from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market Street, York and the day of the day of the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery.
