Kathryn E. Bentz Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Kathryn ‘Doodle’ E. Bentz, 90, of York, died October 20, 2021 at SpiriTrust Lutheran, Village at Sprenkle Drive. Born December 29, 1930, Doodle was one of the first babies delivered in York Hospital. She is the youngest of four siblings, born to the late Dr. George and Grace Peters Kirschner of York. Doodle graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1948 and the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC Greensboro) in 1952. Afterwards, she taught 4th & 5th grades at the Ridge Avenue Elementary School. In 1956, Doodle married Lester W. Bentz, Jr. of York, married for 57 years until his death in 2013. Doodle held numerous volunteer roles in the York community. Leadership roles were with the Junior League of York, York County History Center, United Way, Arthritis Foundation, Girl Scouts, York Day Nursery, Mental Health Association, Woman’s Club, school PTAs, Women’s Auxiliary of the York Symphony, and Women’s Auxiliary of York College. She was also a member of Advent Lutheran Church, the Garden Club of York, the Women's Giving Circle, the York Hospital Auxiliary, DAR, and The College Club. Doodle loved her family, friends, traveling, and York. She enjoyed playing bridge in numerous bridge clubs and developed lifelong friendships. She was an active member of the Country Club of York for more than 50 years. She enjoyed bowling on the CCY team, playing bridge, leading her exercise class in the swimming pool, and numerous other activities. Her favorite place to be in the summers was poolside. Doodle is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Schwartz, Barbara (David) Hogg, and Leslie Bentz. Her four grandchildren brought her great joy: Katie Schwartz, John (Megan) Schwartz, Michael Hogg, and Matthew Hogg. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Shirley Kirschner of NC and Fair Bentz of SC and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son-in-law, John Schwartz; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary/David Monroe and Elaine/Samuel Laucks; brother, George Kirschner; brother-in-law, Carl Bentz, and sister and brother-in-law, Ethel Mae/Malcolm Judd. A private burial will be held in Greenmount Cemetery, officiated by the Rev Constance Mentzer of Advent Lutheran Church. Due to COVID concerns, a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York County History Center, 250 East Market Street, York, PA 17403, the Advent Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, 1775 East Market Street, York, PA 17402 or to a charity of your choice.
