Karolyn K. (Hunt) Sowers

Karolyn K. (Hunt) Sowers, 83, of Yorkana, died peacefully at The Gardens at Gettysburg on Friday, August 6, 2021. Born in York on March 30, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Alden M. and Ruth N. (Crumbling) Hunt. She was the loving wife of the late Paul L. “Sonny” Sowers who preceded her in death on March 18, 2010. Karolyn was a graduate of the former Hellam High School. She was a loving homemaker and loved to cook for her family. She will always be remembered for her best ever chocolate fudge and peanut butter cake with chocolate icing. Karolyn loved to take rides around York County with her best friend and mother Ruth. The two of them could often be found having coffee together or having a meal at the Village Green Restaurant. Karolyn is survived by her children, Kandi S. Kissinger of Yorkana, Kristi K. McHenry and her husband, John of San Antonio, TX, Kelli M. Brown and her husband, Rick of Strinestown, Kerri K. Matthews and her husband, Rick of Hellam, and Paul L. Sowers, Jr. of Yorkana; her grandchildren, Kara, Kayla, Rick Jr., Sabrina, Skylar, Hunter, Zachary, Devan, Kyle, and Kelsey; and her many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Hunt. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 700 Hellam Street, Wrightsville, with Pastor Randy Panebaker officiating. Interment will follow in Canadochly Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Karolyn’s memory may be made to the SPCA of York County, 3159 Susquehanna Trial North, York, PA 17406.
