Joann Louise Deffinbaugh

Joann Louise Deffinbaugh, 89, died peacefully Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the Dallastown Nursing Center. Born in Williamsport, PA on May 13, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Maynard MacMillan and Grace Ethel (Prentiss) Fairchild. Joann was the loving wife and best friend of the late Dovington Carson Deffinbaugh, Jr who died July 8, 2020. They had celebrated 65 years of marriage on May 28, 2020. Joann was a 1950 graduate of South Williamsport High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education at East Stroudsburg State College in 1954 where she met the love of her life, Carson. She also received her master’s degree. Joann was a Physical Education and Health teacher for the Central York School District and retired after many years with the school district. Joann started the annual Middle School gym show at Central. Joann was a member of the Central York Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, and the National Education Association. Joann and her late husband, Carson loved the ocean and for many years wintered in Sanibel Island, FL, where she loved to find and collect seashells. She was a caring pet owner. Joann’s main love in life was her family and she especially cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren. Joann enjoyed quilting and won several ribbons at the York Fair for her quilting. Joann is survived by her son, Jeffrey A. Deffinbaugh and his wife, Kay of York and her daughters, Janis Glusco and her husband, Eric of York, Jill Trabert and her husband, Tom of York, and Jodi Gleeson and her husband, James of Gibsonia. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cody Trabert and his wife, Rachel, Chelsea (Trabert) Kinsley and her husband, James, Rachel (Glusco) Dougherty and her husband, Mark, Carson Glusco, J. Patrick Gleeson, and Daniel Gleeson and her great granddaughters, Claire Kinsley and Dillon Trabert. A private service for Joann will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in Mount Zion Cemetery. Contributions in Joann’s memory may be made to the SPCA of York County, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406 and Alzheimer’s Association Greater PA, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
