April 11, 2021
Jean Louise Grube, née Schaeberle, passed from this life into her Saviour’s arms on April 11th 2021, leaving behind a legacy of love, care and commitment that will forever be remembered. The daughter of Henry and Anna Schaeberle of York, Jean was a devoted and loving wife of Robert Lee Grube for 62 years. He preceded her in death in 2015. Robert caught Jean’s eye as he delivered her family’s daily supply of milk, eventually capturing her heart as well as inciting a lifelong family legend of “falling for the milkman”. They wed in 1952 and swiftly went off to Virginia for Robert’s basic training. He then served in the Korean War while Jean supported him in service to his country. Upon his return, the two built a life filled with love and devotion to their family and community that filled every room they entered with joy. Jean is survived by her children, Vicky Giuffrida and Lisa Marchuska whose childhood radiated with her warmth and guidance as well as grandchildren, Joseph and Patrick Giuffrida, Anna and Julius Marchuska, and Shawn, Christopher, and Ashley Grube. She is also survived by son-in-law, Bernie Marchuska; daughter-in-laws Angie Grube and Dawn Grube; her great-grandchildren Shawnie, Chloey, Dominic, and Paisley; and her brother Henry Schaeberle, Jr. All the grandchildren recall spending time at grandma’s house for a holiday meal, cookout, or lazy summer afternoons spent playing games and eating her legendary cherry pies. Christmas seasons were always special looking forward to everyone’s favorite gift, Jean’s yearly spread of homemade cookies. Whether it was sewing her children’s school clothes, writing a note or card with the most tender language and meticulous handwriting imaginable, or spending time with her congregation at St. John’s Lutheran Church teaching Sunday school, reaching out to the sick or studying the Bible with her peers, Jean put immeasurable care and attention into everything she did for other people. Family, friends and members of her community alike could always look to Jean as a pillar of loving care who’s smile radiated with joy. Jean’s lifetime spent caring, loving and guiding those around her will never be forgotten by anyone fortunate enough to have crossed her path, however briefly. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, 2580 Mount Rose Avenue, York, PA 17402, with Pastor Tab E. Cosgrove officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the church. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
