Floyd Devon "Jingles" Brant

July 13, 1934 - January 26, 2022

Floyd Devon “Jingles” Brant, 87, died on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Wellspan York Hospital. He was the husband of Grace McCleaf Brant, sharing 57 years of marriage. Jingles was born in Somerset County on July 13, 1934, son of the late Harry W. Brant, Sr. and Marian R. (Roach) Brant. Jingles graduated from Meyersdale High School, Class of 1952. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army. He worked for H.J. Williams for 30 years before retiring from PennDOT in 2000. Jingles attended Calvary United Methodist Church in York. He was a charter member and had perfect attendance at the York New Salem Lions Club where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was proud to have attended 17 International Lions Club conventions. He lived to serve others and would give anyone the shirt off his back. He enjoyed traveling and was able to travel to every state and continent, including Antarctica. Camping with the “Camping Crew” was a favorite activity for Jingles and Grace as well as their 43 annual Apple Butter Boil gatherings for family and friends. Every year, Jingles made the trip back to Somerset County for the opening day of “deer season” so he could take his rifle for a walk! Jingles also loved his farm, animals, gardening, auctions, and general puttering around. And the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jingles wicked, dry sense of humor, and his bit of devilish nature, were most evident by the one thing he took with him in his passing – the true story of how he got his nicknames, “Jingles” and “Dingle.” Guess none of us will ever know! In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jennifer E. Brant of Millersville and Jane Brant Scott and her husband, Lorne Scott of York; his granddaughter, Emily Louise Aver and her partner, Elijah Bickel of Knoxville, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Terry Garrett; and five siblings, Etha Yutzy, G. Ferne Saylor, Harry W. Brant, Jr., Donald Brant, and Ena R. Gray. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 11 N. Richland Avenue., York, with Pastor Tanya L.H. Brubaker officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow the service in St. Paul’s Wolf’s Church Cemetery with flag folding and taps presented by the York County Veteran Honor Guard. All COVID 19 protocol is expected and appreciated in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 and/or Calvary United Methodist Church, 11 N. Richland Avenue, York PA 17404. Arrangements by the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, PA 17403.
