Elizabeth Ann (Herbst) Kauffman

February 2, 2022

Elizabeth Ann (Herbst) Kauffman, 90, entered eternal rest on Wednesday February 2, 2022 following a stroke. She was the daughter of Fredrick and Emma Elizabeth Herbst and married to her lifetime love, the late Donald E. Kauffman for 69 years. A gentle and kind woman, she was loved by all who knew her. Her family and faith were the cornerstones of her life and those values showed in all her words and actions. Elizabeth was a 1949 graduate of York High, proceeded to acquire her cosmetology license and maintained her own shop for many years. In 1985 she went into the maternity business with her daughter-in-law eventually operating several stores in the area. Throughout her life, she consistently volunteered, using her time and talents to help others. Her cooking skills were widely recognized and appreciated by anyone blessed enough to enjoy them, particularly her sugar cakes. As a member of the Madison Avenue Church of the Brethren, she was involved in Sunday School and served on a variety of committees. Her church family was very important to her and remained a source of strength throughout her life. Elizabeth is survived by a daughter, Sandra Pavoncello and her husband Richard, and a son, Donald Kauffman, Jr and his wife Carol. Her three grandchildren were a big part of her life: Richard Pavoncello Jr., Lisa Petrosky and Stacia Krupa. Whenever she got to spend time with her six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson she was delighted. A celebration of her life will be held at the Madison Avenue Church of the Brethren, 645 Madison Avenue in York on Wednesday February 9, 2022 beginning at 11:00 AM. Visitation with the family will be held an hour earlier at the church. Burial will follow the service in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to the church or any organization that you feel reflects her life. Arrangements by the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 East Market Street, York, PA 17403.
