May 20, 1926 - October 9, 2021
Eleanora Ruth Gruendler Miller was born on May 20, 1926 to Ida Wilhimina Schaumann and Carl Gruendler in Forest (now known as Munson), PA. She died on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at her residence at the age of 95. Eleanora moved to Lanse, PA at about age 14. Following high school, she moved to York to attend Thompson Business School. She joined St. John Lutheran Church after moving to York and has been a member there ever since. She loved the “little ones” and taught 0–3-year-old Sunday School class for over 35 years. She met and married Earl Vernon Miller on October 16, 1949. They moved to the farm along the Bull Road where over the years they opened their home to may family and friends. He preceded her in death. She made one more move at the age of 89 to Seven Valleys where she loved watching out her room window to all the farm equipment traveling the road, the birds at the feeders near her window, and the view of the flower beds. She spent many hours driving not only her children, but many others to St. John’s for school. The stories she could tell of driving to school in bad weather with a car packed with children in the day and age where there were no seat belts and the little kids sat on the big kid’s laps for the ride. She tended market first at Central Market in York, then both the Central Market and at the open air market on the Farm Show parking lot, and then just at the open air market till the age of 87, selling not only fruit and vegetables, but also honey, plants, flowers, and wreaths. And let not forget the years spent “peddling” fruits and veggies along East Philadelphia Street in York and the side streets off of there. She loved flowers, talking on the phone, sending cards all year and Christmas letters, family, friends, and above all else, her Lord. She is survived by her children, Thomas Miller and his wife, Rita of Galien, Michigan, Grace Heckert and her husband, Dave of Mount Wolf, Pennsylvania, Margaret Winemiller of Seven Valleys, Pennsylvania, Matthew Miller of Cincinnati, Ohio, Nathaniel Miller of Dover, Pennsylvania, and Ruth Martin and her husband, Adam of Stafford, Virginia; her siblings, Delores Clark, Carl Gruendler, Marie Gruendler, and Adelaide Ward; along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents; and infant brother; and her brother, Wally.
