Dorothy E. Steele

October 23, 1932 - February 14, 2021

Dorothy E. “Dottie” Steele, 88, of Mt. Wolf succumbed to her 15 month battle with cancer at home on February 14, 2021 surrounded by her family. She is the wife of the late Charlie Steele, Jr. Dorothy and Charlie were married for 59 years prior to his death in 2010. Born October 23, 1932 in York County, she was the daughter of the late N. Walter and Minnie (Zeigler) Stine. Dorothy was a seamstress for many years and worked for Danskin and Tighe Industries. Dorothy was the oldest living member of Yorkana Church of the Brethren which she attended since the church was established. Her parents were founding members of the church. Dorothy enjoyed making dolls for the children at Hershey Medical Center. She loved to bake and was well known for her candy that she made for her family and friends. She also enjoyed the mountains, going to the beach, traveling with Charlie, going on cruises, and parasailing at the age of 80. Above all, she loved her family and the Lord. She is now safe in the arms of Jesus for which she desired for a long time. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Donna Bupp and her husband, Dave of Mt. Wolf and Jane Lookenbill and her husband, Bob of East Berlin; daughter-in-law, Lori Steele of Wellsville; 8 grandchildren, Abby Latchaw (Nick), Eli Bupp (Gina), Brad Heidlebaugh (Becky), Chad Heidlebaugh, Nathan Steele (Amanda), Becky Cochran, Sarah Madden (Brian), and Benjamin Steele (Christina); 3 step grandchildren, Meredith Leib (Drew), Tammy Rinehart (Marty), and Russ Bevans (Lorie); 16 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter. She is also survived by her brothers and sister, Charles and Robert Stine and Helen Naill. Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Rev. Randy L. Steele and her siblings, Ralph, Floyd, Blanche, Grace, and George Stine, Pauline Warner, and Mary Myers. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Yorkana Church of the Brethren, 88 Main Street, Yorkana, PA with her pastors, the Rev. J. David Krape and the Rev. Thomas Krape, officiating. Viewings will be held Friday, February 19, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. both at the church. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery on Monday, February 22, 2021. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care of Lancaster, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17604 or to Yorkana Church of the Brethren, 88 Main Street, Yorkana, PA 17406. Donna and Jane would like to thank their family and friends for the love and support that was given to Dorothy during her most recent battle with cancer.
